Sea Organ in Zadar, Croatia
In the year of 2005 the sea organ was built on the cascading waterside
promenade of Zadar. It is made up of 35 tubes with a total length of
around 70 meters. It was constructed by the stonemason and architect
Nikola Bašic.
The sea water flows with its waves into the tubes and streams out after
that. As a result the air in the tubes is agitated and pressed into the
pipes in which each tube ends up. The stream of air through the pipes
create sounds in various pitches and sound levels.
The sounds are to be heard from litle holes in the sidewalk of the
promenade and too from holes in the steps at the sea side.
