Vuvuzela
The Vuvuzela is a wind-instrument without valves, also called
soccerhorn. It is used by fans in the soccer stadiums of South Africa.
It has a length of around one meter, with straight stretching
of the cylindric tube which widens up only at its end. It is a simple
fanfare trumpet rather than a horn.
The monotonous sound of a vuvuzela reminds of a low-pitched shiphorn or
the trumpeting of an elephant and can reach a sound level of 130 db.
The lips, pressed into the mouthpiece and then vibrated, create the sound.
Originally Vuvuzelas were made out of tin, since the 1990s however primarily
out of plastic in different colours.
